How to Group Monitors in UptimeRobot – Organize Your Monitors Easily

Learn how to group monitors in UptimeRobot to keep your website, API, and server monitors organized for better management.

Updated over 2 months ago

UptimeRobot provides several ways to organize and manage your monitors. Two key features to enhance your control over your monitor management are tags and groups.

Tags

Available in all our plans, tags are identifiers that you can assign to a monitor while setting it up or editing it later. This categorization tool helps you sort, filter, and organize your monitors based on customized criteria. Since a monitor can have multiple tags, it allows for layered classification.

Etiquettes offer an efficient way to filter and find your monitors based on the assigned tags. Furthermore, 'Bulk Actions' enable you to manage tags in bulk:

  1. Creating New Tags: Quickly create and assign new tags to selected monitors for specific categorization.

  2. Assigning Existing Tags: Already have created tags? Assign them to multiple monitors all together.

  3. Unassigning Tags: If you want to declutter your tags or simply remove unused ones, you can unassign tags from multiple monitors in a jiffy.

Adding monitors to Status Pages was never this easy - simply select a tag, and all monitors with that tag are added to the status page at once. Effortlessly reflecting the state of specific monitors on your status pages.

This feature reduces time and adds efficiency when managing your monitors and status pages.

Monitor Grouping

Offered in our Solo, Team, and Enterprise plans, monitor grouping serves as a unifying organizational structure. It serves as a single categorical identifier, where a monitor strictly belongs to one group, unlike tags. The monitor grouping presents numerous benefits:

Grouped View: 'Monitors' is the default group assigned to all monitors.

Easy Management: The collapsible display of groups eases navigation and management. The dashboard remembers your group order preference.

Group Modification: Groups can be deleted, renamed, or moved. Group-specific settings for Public Status Page and Maintenance Windows are also available.

Health Status Visualization: The status of the group, represented in three colors - green, orange, and red - provides a quick understanding of the group's health status.

Monitors Assignment: Assign monitors to specific groups from the monitor overview via the three dots next to the monitor or the 'Bulk Actions' option on the dashboard.

Group Creation: Use the 'New' button on the dashboard to establish new groups or create one while assigning monitors.

Groups also sync seamlessly with your Public Status Pages (PSPs), providing a consistent and clear view for your users.

Tags vs Groups
While both tools aid in the organization, they cater to different structural needs. Use tags for extensive classification and metadata, and groups for a simplified, overarching organization. The visibility of groups on your dashboard enables instantaneous bulk actions to all monitors in a group, without the need to filter by tag first.

Both tags and monitor groups offer you an organized, efficient monitoring experience with our tool. Depending on your requirements, you can utilize one or both tools to streamline your monitor management effectively.
