UptimeRobot's Free plan is genuinely free, and it is available for any use, including commercial and business use. You can monitor company websites, client projects, internal tools, side projects, or a personal blog on the same free plan. There is no personal-only restriction, and no credit card is required.
The free plan gives you 50 monitors, 5-minute checks, status pages, and the core monitoring types (HTTP/website, keyword, ping, port, and heartbeat/cron monitoring). For many individuals and small teams, that is all they ever need.
Can I use the free plan for business or commercial projects?
Yes. The free plan can be used for business, commercial, and revenue-generating projects. A freelancer monitoring client sites, a startup keeping an eye on its app, or a small business watching its checkout flow are all welcome on the free plan.
Use of UptimeRobot is subject to our Fair Use Policy, which sets sensible operational expectations for every plan (for example, not running automated patterns that strain shared infrastructure). It does not restrict who you are or what you do, only how the service is used.
Who the free plan is a great fit for
Individuals and hobbyists monitoring a personal site, blog, or home lab.
Freelancers and small businesses keeping a handful of client or company sites online.
Startups and side projects that need reliable uptime alerts without a monitoring budget yet.
Open-source projects keeping their services and docs available to the community.
Educational institutions monitoring course platforms and student resources.
Charities and non-profit organizations that want dependable monitoring at no cost.
When a paid plan makes more sense
The free plan is about capacity and features, not about who you are. You may want to move to a paid plan when your usage outgrows it, for example when you need:
Faster checks (1-minute monitoring instead of 5-minute).
More monitors than the free plan's 50.
More team members with their own logins and roles.
Advanced features such as custom-domain status pages, longer log retention, or more notification options.
If your account's monitoring needs grow beyond what the free plan is built for, we may reach out to recommend the plan that fits best. The goal is simply to make sure your monitoring keeps up with what you are actually running.
Non-profits and open source: Sponsored Plans
If you represent a non-profit, charity, or open-source project and need more than the free plan offers, you may be eligible for a Sponsored Plan that provides premium features at no cost. Contact our support team to learn about eligibility and how to apply.
