Downgrading your plan — or letting a paid subscription lapse or end — changes how your monitors run. This article explains exactly what happens so it does not catch you by surprise.
If your monitor count is over the new plan’s limit
Every plan has a monitor limit. If the number of monitors on your account is higher than the limit on your new (lower) plan, all of your monitors are paused — not just the monitors above the limit. There is no “keep the newest/oldest” selection; the pause applies to your whole account at once.
If your monitor count is already within the new plan’s limit, nothing is paused.
To get your monitors running again, either:
Delete monitors until your count is at or below the new plan’s limit, or
Upgrade to a plan with a higher limit.
SSL and domain expiry reminders are turned off
Any downgrade also disables, on the affected monitors: SSL error checking, SSL expiry reminders, and domain expiry reminders.
Important: upgrading again does not turn these back on. They stay off until you re-enable them yourself, one monitor at a time, in that monitor’s settings.
Scheduled downgrades
A downgrade you choose yourself is scheduled for the end of your current billing period — your existing plan and monitors stay as they are until then. You can cancel a scheduled downgrade any time before it takes effect from the ellipsis menu → Billing, Plan & Subscription.
If your subscription expires or is cancelled
The same rules apply once a paid subscription ends — whether it expires or you cancel it. Your account then moves to the Free plan (50 monitors, 5-minute minimum check interval). If you had more monitors than the Free plan allows, all of them are paused until you delete down to the limit or resubscribe. SSL error checking and SSL/domain expiry reminders are disabled the same way described above, and are not restored automatically if you resubscribe.
Moving off a legacy plan
If you’re on a legacy plan, UptimeRobot may migrate your account to one of the current plans. If you receive a notification about this, check it for the plan you’re being moved to, its pricing, and which features are included.
Some migrations include notify-only seats at no extra cost for a limited time. This benefit is temporary — check your notification for how long it applies, since it is not permanent and reverts to regular pricing afterward.
